The Logical Link Control (LLC) is a protocol used between the Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN) and the mobile users in a GSM GPRS network. The LLC provides a reliable data link as well as the ciphering on the data link. The LLC is responsible for the contact between the mobile user and the SGSN even when there is no actual data to be send. This contact is needed by the SGSN to keep track of the location of the mobile user.
