Broadband

Nederlands

Broadband is a very loosely defined term. The reason is that something is broad as opposed to something small. In the beginning, broadband was a term used for connections that could support more than only one telephone call (64 kbit/s). Nowadays, a transmission capacity of 128 kbit/s is still considered as being small.

Nowadays, the term broadband can be defined as a transmission capacity with sufficient bandwidth to provide simultaneously voice, data and video services of good quality.

In that context, the term broadband is also used a a generic term for high-speed Internet connections, such as ADSL or cable modem connections.
