XviD

Nederlands

XviD is the name of a popular video compression technology. XviD video compression is based on MPEG-4. XviD is able to offer a good quality compression of a full-length DVD movie that fits on a single CD, while still maintaining the original image quality.

The sound is usually coded with MP3 or Dolby Surround Sound (AC3).

You will need a XviD codec to play XviD video. The codec is used by your media player (e.g. Windows Media player) to decode the XviD video. Nowadays, there are also DVD players available that support XviD.

XviD is developed as an open source project by volunteer programmers from all over the world. The format offers a free alternative to other commercial video codecs, such as DivX.
