Wiki

A Wiki is a website of which the visitors can modify, create and delete the webpages. The best known example of a Wiki is the Wikipedia, an encyclopedia on the web.

The first Wiki is the Portland Pattern Repository, een website about a computer programming language. The website is started in 1995 by Ward Cunningham. He called it a WikiWikiWeb. Wiki wiki is a Hawaiian term for fast. Nowadays, wiki is also used as an abbreviation for What I Know Is, to make clear that the website is made of the collective knowledge of the visitors.
