UMB - Ultra Mobile Broadband

Ultra Mobile Broadband (UMB) was the name for a air interface for the 4th generation mobile communications. UMB should have been one of the air interfaces for IMT-Advanced. UMB was developed by 3GPP2 based on CDMA2000. UMB was formally known as CDMA 2000 EV-DO Rev. C.

Qualcomm, the lead sponsor of UMB, announced in November 2008 that it had stopped development of Ultra Mobile Broadband, focusing its resources on Long Term Evolution (LTE) instead.

The UMB system was designed to deliver both voice and high speed data services based on a all-IP network architecture. UMB should offer high spectral efficiency, very low latency and ver high peak data rates (288 Mbit/s downlink and 76 Mbit/s uplink).
