Indian Regional Navigational Satellite System
(IRNSS)

The Indian Regional Navigational Satellite System (IRNSS) is a regional satellite navigation system from India. The system is being developed by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

The aim of the IRNSS is to provide autonomous satellite navigation for the Indian region, idependend of GPS or any other satellite navigation system.

The IRNSS would provide a Standard Positioning Service open for civilian use and a more accurate Precision Service for authorised users (mainly military). The system uses L5 (1176.45 MHz) and S band (2492.08 MHz).

The IRNSS is planned to have 7 satellites and associated ground infrastructure. The first satellite was successfully launched in July 2013. The whole system is planned to be available in 2015-2016.
