EFR - Enhanced Full Rate

Enhanced Full Rate (EFR) is an improved version of the original speech codec for GSM. The EFR codec is developed to improve the speech quality. The speech quality approaches the quality of a fixed telephone line.

The EFR codec has roughly the same bit rate as the standard full rate codec of GSM. The bit rate is 12.2 kbit/s for the speech and 10.6 kbit/s for error protection. The speech codec is based on the Algebraic Code Exited Linear Prediction () algorithm.
