Telecom ABC - A

Audio Video Interleaved (AVI) is a file format to combine video and its associated audio in a single file. AVI only defines the way the video and audio are multiplexed in a single file. It does not define the way the video and audio are coded. An AVI file can contain any mixture of compressed video and audio.

The AVI file format is realized by Microsoft as part of its Video for Windows. Nowadays, the AVI file format is used for video file transfer over the Internet.
